Food waste and losses occur at every stage of the food supply chain, from primary production to the consumer. This presents both economic and social challenges and has environmental impacts. The causes of food waste are diverse and are detailed in the thesis, along with other areas, such as approaches to studying the causes, the composition of food waste, measures for reduction, and methods for managing food losses and waste. Our focus has primarily been on the stages before reaching the final consumer. We conducted interviews with stakeholders from various sectors, questioning them about the causes, challenges, costs, and the supportive environment related to food waste, as well as food donation. Based on the responses, we presented the main causes of food waste generation and other findings related to this issue specific to each stage. Additionally, we propose relevant measures that could contribute to reducing or preventing food waste.
