Abstract

Title:Nature as stimulant: conceptual design of a Horticulture school center Celje
Abstract:
The master’s thesis investigates the problem of the degraded area of the old concrete plant in Medlog near Celje. The location of the concrete plant took advantage of the potential of the riparian area. Still, with its collapse, it left a built-up closed area, which complicates the connection with the riparian area of the city. The area in question shows the existing program, which today is already curtailed and does not contribute as much to the city as it once had. Spatial analyses, with an emphasis on the historical development of the area, showed the historical connection of the area with the cultural landscape and suburban, agrarian character. The area in question has always been supplied by the city in various ways. The concrete plant, which later appeared within the green space, also represented a contribution to the city, which, however, compared to the green space, was complementary and distinctly short-lived. The concrete plant was born out of the need to produce building materials for the growth of the city. When the city began to stagnate, its function also died out. Based on previously performed spatial analyses, the assignment establishes the negative impact of the concrete plant, not only on the perception of the space but also on the programmatic impoverishment of an area otherwise important for the spatial development of the city. With the placement of the Horticultural school center, the area is restored to the landscape and connected to the bypass axis and the city.
