Abstract

Title:Learning by imitation in accordion lessons
Abstract:
Imitation is one of the most basic needs in human development and plays a major role in human development and learning new skills. In my master thesis I will ask why imitation occurs in the first place and what role imitation plays in music school lessons, focusing on imitation in accordion lessons. To facilitate understanding, I will describe the different ways of learning and describe model learning in more detail. I will also focus on the issue of the learner. I will try to describe the different characteristics of the learner and ask myself what kind of learner is best suited to the imitation method of learning. I will compare imitation learning in music school with classical learning and compare them with each other. To this end, I will also carry out a study in which I will compare the classical way of teaching the accordion with learning by imitation. For the purpose of the research I have written a piece of music which I will use in two groups and then compare them with each other. In one of the groups, the students will approach the piece using the established method of learning that they use in music school lessons, and in the other group, they will learn the piece from pre-prepared recordings using imitation. After the participants have finished learning the piece, I will collect their feelings and opinions about these and similar ways of working and about the research process, and to improve the quality of the results, I will set up an evaluation committee to listen to the performances of all the candidates and to evaluate them according to certain criteria.
