As a result of increasingly complex working conditions in the field of education, emphasis is nowadays put on the quality of professional staff, which depends to a great extent on the quality and effectiveness of training during professional initiation. Due to the systemic arrangement ensuring gradual and precise initiation into and familiarisation with the profession, one of the most effective forms of training for independent work in the field of education is traineeship. With the aim to determine the quality of the traineeship regulation in the Republic of Slovenia, this paper provides a comprehensive overview of the legal arrangement both of the traineeship and the qualifying examination, focusing mainly on the challenges that arise in practice as a consequence of legal regulations.
By analyzing secondary sources, it was determined that the traineeship, as a form of acquiring one's first work experience and initiation into educational activities, is not mandatory by law, while the qualifying examination in this field is a prerequisite for independent work. In practice, this inconsistency gave rise to numerous challenges, which are the most evident especially when acquiring work experience, required by professional workers to take the qualifying examination.
Based on the determined challenges faced by professional workers, this paper provides several suggestions related to potential changes to the legal arrangement, which could eliminate or significantly reduce inequalities when it comes to acquiring work experience required to take the qualifying examination. This enables all professional workers to obtain all qualifications required for independently pursuing a profession as quickly as possible.
