Maintenance constitutes a significant portion of the engine room crew’s responsibilities. In this thesis, we delve into the intricacies of maintenance procedures and the essential tasks performed by machinists. As a foundational exploration, we examine critical methods and conduct analyses relevant to their work.
Furthermore, our investigation extends to the comprehensive framework of rules, regulations, standards, and codes that have shaped ship design and construction from their inception. We also provide guidelines to assist ship operators in meeting specific requirements, ensuring systematic management of maintenance processes.
Lastly, we present a case study involving a partial drive failure. By highlighting potential consequences and outlining necessary measures, we underscore the crew’s role in mitigating such incidents.
