The present thesis will attempt to analyze the fundamental ideas of
Heidegger's text The Origin of the Work of Art and place them in the broader
context of Heidegger's philosophy. I aim to demonstrate how certain ideas
from his earlier works (Being and Time and Plato's doctrine of truth) relate
to the writing in The Origin of the Work of Art. More specifically, the thesis
will focus on two propositions: Heidegger asserts that art is the planting of
truth into the work and that we must understand truth as disclosure. I will
provide an explanation of these two theses within the context of the essay
The Origin of the Work of Art and then define their importance for a broader
understanding of Heidegger's thought. Personally, I believe it is important to
read and understand the ideas of Heidegger's later essays together with the
ideas from his earlier works. More precisely, I will attempt to define the
essay The Origin of the Work of Art as a possible response to the issue of
forgetting of Being from Being and Time.
