The aim of this thesis is to explore the origins of stereotypes about the Asian minority in the US, and the effects those have had in the on-screen portrayal of its people. The thesis looks into some historical events in the history of the Asian American community in the US that have contributed to the formation of the image of the community and its portrayal in Hollywood films. It also looks into the importance and the benefits of a good representation of a social group for its members. It concludes with an analysis of the 2018 film Crazy Rich Asians, which was the first Hollywood film in 25 years to have an all-Asian cast, and is therefore seen as an important milestone in a more diverse representation in Hollywood films.
