In the master’s thesis we assessed the scope and characteristics of the impact of campgrounds on landscapes. Our point of interest was which landscape patterns are the most attractive for designing campgrounds and whether the impact on landscapes is considered. Additionally, we were interested in the characteristics of the impact of campgrounds on landscapes. Throughout literature review we discovered that considering changes in landscape image, structure and its characteristics in the planning phase of campgrounds is often neglected or left out. In the empirical part we first conducted an inventory and selected 10 Slovenian campgrounds for further analysis. To determine the impact, we described the features of landscapes and the characteristics of the selected campgrounds. We evaluated them based on the chosen criteria and according to the specific characteristics of the landscapes and the campground. From the three goals for the landscape, we created evaluation criteria. By assessing the impact of campgrounds on landscapes, we found that they have a greater impact on the structure than on the social benefit of the landscapes. We realized that the size of the impact is conditioned by the chosen location. If the campsite is located in a more vulnerable environment or a visibly exposed place, its impact is greater already from the outset. Campgrounds enhance the functions and improve the walkability of the landscapes, however their social benefit diminishes when an entrance fee is required for daily visitors. In conclusion, we provided guidelines for reducing the impact of campgrounds on landscapes and specific suggestions for improving the selected Labrca campground.
