In our thesis, we designed, constructed, and 3D printed a dovetail joint based on the design of wooden dovetail joints. The printed joint, which can be fitted onto wooden elements, is simpler to manufacture than traditional wooden joints and provides sufficient strength (although weaker than fully wooden joints) and disassembly capability. Together with the wooden elements, it enables the assembly of larger furniture pieces. We adjusted the 3D-model and printing parameters to ensure proper fitting of individual parts. Various materials were used for printing (PLA, PLA-wood). The results from physical testing in the laboratory were compared with load simulations in SolidWorks. The oak dovetail joint withstood a load of 1840 N, the beech joint withstood 775 N, the 3D printed PLA joint withstood 535 N, while the PLA-wood composite joint withstood 227 N.
