Abstract

Title:
Antenatal anxiety and fear of childbirth in relation to satisfaction in partnership and pregnant woman's well-being
Abstract:
When a woman becomes pregnant, the transition to parenthood opens up new challenges for the couple. Every pregnant woman experiences anxiety during pregnancy and fear of childbirth in different ways. Satisfaction in the partner relationship and general well-being during pregnancy are related to fear of childbirth and anxiety during pregnancy. We conducted a qualitative research in which 307 participants participated, all of whom were pregnant. Fear of childbirth was measured with the WDEQ questionnaire for fear of childbirth, anxiety with the GAD-7 questionnaire on general anxiety, general well-being with the WHO-5 questionnaire for general well-being, which every pregnant woman can also fill out in her maternity booklet. Experiencing satisfaction in a partnership was measured with the KMS scale for assessing satisfaction in a partnership relationship. We found that there are no statistically significant differences between pregnant women in experiencing fear of childbirth according to the planning of the pregnancy, and there are also no statistically significant differences among pregnant women in experiencing anxiety according to employment. We confirmed that those pregnant women who experience more fear before childbirth also have higher levels of pregnancy anxiety. We have confirmed that pregnant women who are more satisfied in their partner relationship experience less fear of childbirth. We also found that primiparous women experience less fear of childbirth than multiparous women.
