The work deals with the development of wild game populations in the periods 1951-1960 and 1994-2003 in the Tolmin forest management area in the North-westof Slovenia. The two periods are not similar according to the commonpresence of wild game species. The hunting areas have been divided into two groups in first and four groups in second period. The hare (Lepus europaeus P.) being typical for the division in the first period and the wild boar (Sus scrofa L.) in the second. We have defined nine uses of space in the first period, and fifteen in the second one. Between the two periods the uses changed a lot, the proportion of farmland was reduced while the proportion of forest increased. The change of use of space has a great impact on the number and distribution of wild game populations. The greatest density of population of the wild boar, which started to rise rapidly after the year 1996, can be found along the Western national border. The presence of the wild boar is connected to the use of a space in both periods. The body mass of wild boars depends on the density of population and the harshness of habitat. The gender and age structure of the population depend on population density as well. The red deer (Cervus elaphus L.) appears in the area in groups which aggregate into two different populations. The two populations differ in distribution in the area and density, but not in gender, age structure and quality. They are structurally still in the phase of construction. A connection between the use of space and the presence of the red deer has not been discovered.
