Slovene short realistic youth literature, among which there are novelettes and short stories, appears in three distinctive genres after 1950: memorial, experiential and detective prose. All of these share some common formal features (such as length, fragmentation, fairly accurate characterisation of the main literary persona), but they also differ in terms of themes and recurring images. The most important difference is the narrator' s stance, which is especially noticeable in descriptions of literary place and time in individual stories. The realistic story is motivated by probability, which is why all of the chosen texts emphasise the possibility of an actual experience.
