Video conferencing is a crucial tool in modern times, especially in the period when
remote work and education have become part of everyday life. The development of
technology has facilitated the rapid expansion and accessibility of video conferencing
environments, making them indispensable for both business and educational
purposes. Examining and comparing these platforms in a thesis provides insights into
their functionalities, advantages, disadvantages, and user experiences.
The thesis focuses on the analysis and comparison of the usage of three video
conferencing software environments: Zoom, MS Teams, and BigBlueButton. The
objectives of the thesis include presenting the evolution of web conferences and
conducting a comparative analysis of the usage of the mentioned environments. The
research questions address the advantages, user-friendliness, and suitability for
collaborative group work of each video conferencing platform.
The thesis consists of six chapters, including an introduction that outlines the purpose,
objectives, and research questions. The second chapter concentrates on the
development of video conferences, technological components, and telecommunication
standards. The third chapter introduces the selected video conferencing environments,
while the fourth chapter systematically analyzes the functionalities of these platforms.
The fifth chapter presents findings and answers to the research questions.
Zoom provided positive experiences regarding program reliability, but limitations arose
in the functionalities of the free version. MS Teams achieved positive results, but
limitations were evident in the functionality of the web version. BigBlueButton delivered
effective performance, albeit with some minor shortcomings.
The analysis emphasizes that each video conferencing environment has its
advantages and disadvantages, and the choice depends on the specific needs of
users.
