Abstract

Title:Formal Divergences and Motif Interweaving between Classic Fairy Tale and the Original Tale by Lila Prap
Abstract:
The emergence of modern artificial fairy tales began after the conclusion of World War II. The fundamental difference from classic fairy tales lies in the fact that the reader follows a contemporary urban child in these stories, who establishes a connection with the fantastical realm of their life through their struggles and emotional impulses. The events take place in a modern urban environment. However, this isn't characteristic of all fairy tales created from the second half of the 20th century onwards. A good example of this is the story by Lilijana Praprotnik Zupančič, known by the pseudonym Lila Prap, who innovatively intertwines well-known elements from classic fairy tales, often from the Grimms' collection, into a cohesive narrative enriched with modern elements in her original picture book 1001 pravljica. At first glance, considering the author's reputation as an innovative youth writer, it seems impossible for her to create anything other than a contemporary fairy tale. However, upon studying professional literature and the works of literary theorists specializing in fairy tales, we quickly realize that this is a typical case of a classic artificial fairy tale, although certain elements in the tale are inconsistently presented, which complicates its literary classification.
