This Master's thesis presents the techniques used by Fran Klemenčič for his paintings and examines the complex host of issues related to the conservation of the unvarnished modern painting "Girl in National Costume". The present work attempts to answer the question if the choice of materials or simply the techniques used by the painter are responsible for the damage suffered by the painting. With technical photography, we reveal the artist's technique and the materials used in the creation of the painting. Furthermore, we transcribe the procedures that were used for consolidation of the picture layers and removing debris from a surface that is extremely sensitive to water-based cleaning methods.
