The goal of the thesis was to create an interactive periodic table for primary and secondary school students that is also suitable for the visually impaired.
The theoretical part describes a short history of the chemical elements and the development of the periodic table. As an interesting feature, different forms of the periodic table are presented. They were created to present the chemical elements more interestingly. Design elements are also defined. They are an important building block of the graphic design process. At the end of the theoretical part, teaching tools and their classification into three subgroups are presented.
In the experimental part, existing periodic tables were analyzed and, in particular, an example of a classical periodic table was studied in detail. As the main part of the experimental work, the methods and process of designing a new periodic table in Adobe Illustrator were presented. The entire process is described from the first sketch to all components.
In the last chapter of the diploma’s thesis, the results of the design analysis of the classical periodic table are also presented. Finally, the answers to the survey questions are also presented. They were intended to test the appropriateness of the new periodic table developed.
The goal of this thesis was to design a new teaching aid that would facilitate the learning process of the students and present the arrangement of the chemical elements interestingly. Vivid colors were used to create greater color contrast and, thus, make it easier to distinguish between the different parts of the periodic table. As the designed periodic table is quite large, the typography is also larger and, therefore, easier to read. The final product has achieved all the objectives set at the beginning.
