Abstract

Abstract:
There are different systems used for collection and processing of geographicalinformation. One of such systems is Global Positioning System or GPS which allows precise navigation and precise geometry with help of satellite navigation. Precision of GPS systems depends on method of work and current situational factors with precision error ranging between 1 to 5 m. This preciseness is suitable for forest mapping since the digital ortofoto in scale of 1 : 5000 or 1 : 10000 is precise enough to satisfy most demands of forest workers. Topographical charts which are now being used in forestry are often less precise and usually not up-to-date. Hand held GPS devices were found to be very useful in supplying up-to-date information to topographical charts, especially in mapping of forest traffic ways, since the data collectedwith such systems is very simple to be integrated, processed and shared in modern geographical information systems.
