The confluence of rivers Tolminka and Soča in Tolmin is known primarily as a popular festival venue, however, the spatial dynamics there also reveal broader social issues. Through the anthropology of space, the ethnographic intertwining of local perspectives and the author's experience, this master's thesis traces the development of Sotočje from a wild beach into a spontaneous venue or a place for local youth to socialize in, then into a festival venue, and finally into a contested place in which diverse social, economic, political, and other processes are expressed. Based on Lefebvre's concept of the production of space, this thesis presents different but intertwining layers of this complex socio-cultural space. The main purpose of this thesis is to contribute an ethnography of the festival venue and to show, on a practical example, the characteristics of the local environment.
