Introduction: The world’s population is ageing rapidly, with population ageing manifesting itself as a global demographic trend, bringing with it the need to adapt systems of care, health care and social services to meet the needs of a growing population of older adults. The growing number of older adults is one of the most important challenges facing different countries in the world. By 2025, there will be 1. 2 billion people over the age of 60. By 2050, there will be 2 billion of them, of which about 80% will live in developed countries. Occupational therapy (OT) is based on the knowledge that occupation is essential to health and well-being. As humans, we need to engage in meaningful activities, including basic daily chores, socializing, and finding our passions. Purpose: The aim was to explore what is known so far about the strategies used by occupational therapists in the field of active and healthy ageing. Methods: A literature review was conducted. The search for scientific and professional literature was carried out with the help of the Network of the National and University Library (NUK) in CINAHL, PubMed, Web of Science and OTSeeker databases. Results: The literature review included 8 articles that met the inclusion criteria. Two papers are qualitative, three are systematic literature reviews, one literature review, one randomized control trial, and one mixed-method study. All articles were under 10 years old. In the thematic analysis, we selected two themes and six sub-themes from the reviewed articles. Discussion and conclusion: Interventions carried out by OT's include both individual and group sessions where users are taught on a variety of topics focused on improving the quality of life of older individuals. Health promotion is a key aspect of raising awareness of the importance of healthy lifestyles, regular physical activity, a balanced diet and mental health care. Social inclusion is proving to be key to the well-being of older people, helping to improve mental health, strengthen social ties and reduce feelings of loneliness. Integrating different occupational therapy interventions that focus on active and healthy ageing is therefore key to improving the lives of older adults. OT has proven to be an effective tool in promoting active and healthy ageing. Together with a constant focus on promoting healthy lifestyles and social participation and physical activity, OT's contributes to the overall well-being of older individuals.
