The Department for Preschool Education at the Faculty of Education in Maribor has carried out research pertaining to the representation, methods of realisation, inter-subject connectedness and evaluation of various fields of activity represented in the Nursery School Curriculum (e.g. musical, art, dance and language education). We acquired 153 three monthly plans which had been implemented in various Slovene nursery schools from November 2003 to January 2004. These were analysed according to pre-established criteria, in the same way for each separate area of activity,
taking into account: the number of children in a group and the age of the children; the type of plan (daily, weekly, thematic); the theme; available tools and resources; the integration area; working methods; goals and objectives; analysis and evaluation. The results indicate that the Nursery School Curriculum is not being adhered to: the percentage of guided literary activity in nursery schools is low, the selection of treated literary texts inadequate, the choice of working methods uniform and monotonous and the objectives poorly taken into account during the planning stage, while most of the required evaluations were not even carried out. The analysis is followed by proposals pertaining to literary education in nursery schools.
