Abstract
Rezultati raziskave so potrdili povezanost SES in aspiracij učencev glede nadaljnjega izobraževanja in bodočega poklica.

Title:Impact of Socio-Economic Status on Students' Aspirations
Abstract:
In the school system, inequalities from society are being transferred into inequalities in education. Economic, cultural, social and symbolic capital are crucial in determining the socio-economic status (SES) of an individual. Its effects can be seen at the primary and secondary level. Primary effects can be seen as an influence on grades, and secondary effects as an influence on making decisions about future education. In the theoretical part, I combined facts and principles of different authors who dealt with the target area. I also added the findings of various international and Slovenian researchers. In the practical part, I performed a secondary analysis of the results of the PISA 2018 survey for Slovenian students. I used the descriptive method and the research approach of a quantitative research. I analysed answers of those students who attended the last year of primary school or the first year of various secondary schools. The results confirmed the connection between SES and students' aspirations regarding education and future profession. Students who come from families with lower social backgrounds are more likely to enrol in professional and vocational schools. Those from more stimulating environments prefer to choose gymnasiums. The influence of socio-economic status is also seen in factors that are important for deciding about future profession (e.g., in grades, hobbies, educational and employment opportunities and others). The topic is related to the sociological and pedagogical field.
