The thesis presents the One Belt One Road initiative, a significant geopolitical project
of China, and Slovenia's involvement in the initiative. The aim is to present not only the
initiative itself but also sustainable development, the existing cooperation between the
two countries within this project, as well as opportunities for future collaboration. The
thesis also explores the possibility of ensuring Slovenia's sustainable development
within the framework of participation in the One Belt One Road initiative and the
importance of the role played by public administration in this regard. The reason for
the research lies in the increasing importance of public partners in project
implementation in Slovenia. As China is becoming one of the major such partners in
Europe as well, I decided to investigate its potential involvement in projects in Slovenia.
Although the previous cooperation between Slovenia and China within the initiative has
not yet borne fruit, China has shown great interest, particularly regarding connections
with the Port of Koper and the construction of the Second Railway Track.
The thesis is based on the review of numerous business documents, international
papers, development strategies, academic publications, as well as newspaper articles,
which also provided insights into how the initiative itself and Slovenia's involvement in
it are portrayed to the wider public. The thesis is valuable for examining and
understanding various key aspects of the country's sustainable development within the
initiative. As the initiative encompasses significant infrastructure projects,
understanding how these projects would impact Slovenian infrastructure and,
consequently, sustainable development is crucial for deciding whether China would be
chosen as an investor in such projects.
