Abstract

Title:Evaluation of the stability of organic friction modifiers in different base oils
Abstract:
Lubricants are indispensable in everyday life and are of crucial importance for the lubrication of mechanical systems and are therefore subject to constant further development. They consist of base oil and additives. The mixture of base oil and additives must be stable for effective lubrication. Two methods were used in the diploma thesis to investigate the stability of mixtures and one to show the effect of mixture stability on the coefficient of friction. In most mixtures, the turbidity decreases with increasing temperature (the additive dissolves). Mixtures with perfluorotetradecanoic acid become clearer later than mixtures with tetradecanoic acid. The difference in the coefficient of friction between the base lubricant and the mixture with the additive is greater at lower temperatures.
