Abstract
Prispevek podaja historiat maturitetnega izpita iz slovenščine pri splošni maturi, argumente za njegovo zasnovo in sestavo izpita iz jezika in književnosti. Razlaga teoretična izhodišča in realizacijo posameznih delov izpita iz književnosti, začetke in procesne spremembe pri njegovem pisnem in ustnem delu. Podaja primere nalog in izpitnih vprašanj, nato pa se dotakne odmevov, ki so ta izpit ves čas spremljali v javnosti, v medijih in v strokovnih glasilih. Zaključuje z mislijo, da je bil ta izpit spodbuda za raziskovanje in praktično uveljavljanje številnih didaktičnih posodobitev književnega pouka, ki jih bo potrebno upoštevati ne glede na spremembe, ki se obetajo selekcijski zasnovi državne mature.

Abstract:
A short history of the Slovene part of the general matura examination is offered, as well as arguments supporting the way it is structured and the composition of the exam in language and literature. An explanation is given of the theoretical basis and the realisation of some individual parts of the literature exam, as well as how it began and changes to its written and oral parts. Examples of examination tasks and questions are followed by discussion of the reaction that this examination has always been subject to among the general public, in the media and in academic publications. The concluding thought is that the examination should encourage research and practical implementation of a number of changes in the way literature is taught that should be considered regardless of proposed changes to the structure of the national matura.
