The key reason for writing the diploma is the research of the electoral area and the possibility of introducing digitization to this area, which would potentially help to improve the process in such a way as to facilitate the publication of results in real time and also facilitate the election process for the voter himself.
In the diploma, we want to explore the positive opinions and concerns of voters regarding the introduction of information technology into the field of elections. We achieved this through empirical research, which was conducted among randomly selected people who are of legal age and have the right to express their opinion in elections. We also conducted an interview with the director of the National Electoral Commission, and obtained opinion regarding the introduction of electronic voter directories.
The obtained results show us, that people see the positive features of the introduction of technology, but they are also concerned about the possible negative consequences that it could bring to the election process. The majority of respondents believe that with the help of electronic voter registers, voting participation would increase, the use of paper would be reduced, and the publication of results would be faster, many of them also agree with the claims of better privacy, better security of personal data, less possibility of human mistakes and with the claim of better records, that would contribute to the transparency of elections. At the same time, they also have concerns about the security and privacy of data, possible intrusions, the exclusion of certain groups of voters, signing on an electronic tablet and the threat to the legitimacy of the electoral process. Despite these concerns, more than 50% of respondents agree with the introduction.
