In presentday forest production a motor chainsaw represents a machine of utmost importance. That is why it is crucial that we understand key landmarks and technical innovations in the evolution of the chainsaw development. Firstly we represented the period before the introduction of chainsaw usage inwhich workers used hand tools and machines, that is chainsaw predecessors. Specific working conditions in forest always dictated the usage of light, portable and efficient machines. The mass/power relation was a key factor in development of motor chainsaws. Even today manufacturers strive to reduce this relation, which jointly leads to development of even more efficient chainsaw. There were no significant technical and ergonomical improvements in the period of two-man chainsaws. The reasons were commonness of hand tools, dislike to new machines and influence of wartime. On the other hand the introduction of one-man chainsaw ment a whole new spectrum of its quick technical evolution. A modern chainsaw has all technical and ergonomical improvements that are necessary for efficient, safe and effective work.
