Abstract
Diplomsko delo obravnava prenos banke NLB d.d. iz državne v zasebno last oz. njeno privatizacijo.

Title:The reasons and consequences of the privatization of NLB bank
Abstract:
This bachelor thesis focuses on the transfer of NLB d.d. bank from state to private ownership. Another word for this is privatisation. There are several different processes of privatisation, namely denationalisation, deregulation and liberalisation of state monopolies, and contracting out. It also has a significant political, economic and social impact. The history of the NLB bank dates back to 1820. Its activities play a key role in the economy, which is directly linked to the history, development and influence of money. In 2019, the RS completed the sale of 75 % minus one share, listing NLB on the stock exchange. To date, NLB's role in the banking sector has changed considerably, as its activities are not only focused on traditional banking products such as accounts, packages, loans, limits, investments, leases, etc., but also on broader and socially relevant topics such as sustainability and areas of corporate social responsibility. The purpose of the thesis is to present the impact of the privatization of NLB d.d. on financial and economic stability, prove the expediency of privatization in terms of business efficiency before and after privatization and how the Republic of Slovenia followed European directives in the field of privatization of the banking system. Using the descriptive method and comparative analysis, the findings of the thesis show that NLB was privatized due to the government commitments to the European Commission. Privatization had a positive impact on NLB and its business efficiency. Currently, NLB is the leading banking and financial group operating in South-Eastern Europe.
