Abstract
The closed-form solution for Prandtl model implemented into the finite element method is presented which enables elasto-viscoplastic simulations of engineering materials. A nonlinear temperature-dependent damper is combined in series with the temperature-dependent spring-slider model for the description of the material stress–strain behaviour. The simulation capabilities allow a separate study of influence due to plastic or viscous properties of the material. Several load cases are studied, including constant temperature relaxation and variable thermomechanical loads. The simulation results are then compared to the Abaqus-implemented material model for elasto-viscoplastic simulations. The models provide similar solutions for simpler load cases whereas higher discrepancies can be observed for more complex load histories since the positions of the nonlinear damper in the models differ.
