Abstract

Title:
Analysis-suitable $C^1$ isogeometric spline spaces
Abstract:
Isogeometric analysis is a novel approach for computing the numerical solution of partial differential equations, where the goal is to adapt the finite element method to work on parameterizations generated through computer-aided geometric design tools. The main idea of isogeometric analysis is to use the same basis functions that are employed to describe the domains for defining the so-called isogeometric functions on these domains. In this work, our focus will be on describing geometries using B-splines, which are fundamental tools in computer-aided design and constitute the basis for piecewise polynomial functions. In isogeometric analysis, the question of how to construct the most suitable descriptions of geometries for solving partial differential equations with the emphasis on the flexibility of the construction and high convergence rate is still an open problem. We will define conditions for the geometric/parametric description of domains over which we can construct isogeometric functions with good approximation properties. Geometries that meet these conditions are referred to as analysis-suitable geometries. Subsequently, we will generate a basis for the space of isogeometric functions over analysis-suitable planar domains, concluding with an algorithm that for a given planar domain constructs an approximation domain described by analysis-suitable parameterization.
