This research paper considers possibilities to modernize production of wood ina private sector of the Šentviška planota forest district. For private owners the forest can represent a regular source of income, it can serve as a reserve for domestic needs of wood and it can also serve as an income, that one can get from forest wood products. The major factors that have impact on the modernization of wood production are natural factors, technological development, energetics, the market of wood assortments and incoms from the forest. There are many differences among private forest owners, like the size of their farm as well as interest, knowledge and the time they are ready to put into the forest. These differences have an important influence on effect, professionalism and safety of their finished work. Our research is based on ananalysis of the momentary situation of accomplished forest work and selling forest wood assortments in a private sector. The analysis was based on a survey among private forest owners, which were divided according to the size of their farm. Based on our results we estimated some possibilities of using modern technology. We also recommended an improvement of routine activities aswell as new possibilities and measures for a more efficient utilization of the forests. There are several possibilities of modernizing wood production inthe forest district Šentviška planota, starting with basic equipment and finishing with selling wood products. Large barriers for the development of modernization are the lack of young people, prepared to work in a forest and unsuitability usage of technology with high efficiency.
