Pipe culverts are essential elements of drainage on forest roads and serve forcontrolled drainage of water from side drains and road ditches. Key factorsfor their functioning are adequate location, correct construction and regular maintenance. The objective of the graduation thesis was to assess the condition of pipe culverts in relation to longitudinal slope of forest roads. The research was conducted on forest road Hrastnik in forest management unit Selca. The results show that in terms of road condition the most problematic longitudinal slopes are the ones between 4 and 8 per cent as those roads tend to clog and damage more easily. Clogging is additionally problematic on roads with longitudinal slopes between 0 and 4 per cent, primarily because of clogged pipe culvert inflows. Longitudinal slope above 12 per cent, however, results in high damages of the road that are due to the destructive force of atmospheric precipitations. Due to damages, seven pipe culverts require substituting with new ones (60 cm in diameter), and all the others need fixingthe outflows and rebuilding of inflows. The costs of work would amount to 4,759.62 (1,140,595.40 SIT). Given the average funds spent on the road inthe last six years it would take approximately three years to fix the drainage with pipe culverts, excluding the cost of permanent maintenance. In future, more attention should be paid to regular maintenance of pipe culvert inflows and side drains.
