I decided to do the research because, based on practical experience from my private and professional life, I noticed that we have insufficient effective practices in the field of violence against men in Slovenia. According to the Act on the Prevention of Domestic Violence and the Family Code, we are all entitled to the same help and measures in the event of an experience with violence. Given that we have maternity homes, safe houses and crisis centers for female victims of violence in Slovenia, while we do not have a program or institution for male victims of violence that would be financed by the Ministry of Social Affairs or the respective municipality, I would like to know if female professional workers at social work centers manage to effectively protect victims of male violence.
In my master's thesis, I focus on domestic violence against men, which is often overlooked, less researched, and socially suppressed. The goal is to find out whether social work centers encounter cases of violence against men and how often they encounter violence against men, what measures they must adhere to and what levers they use to protect the victim. This information could be used to provide more effective services and programs to support men who are victims of violence. This information can also help us in reducing the stigmatization of male victims of violence and improving their support in society.
