For the design of structures using adhesive-free cross-laminated timber panels with dowels, such as iQwood elements, there is a lack of guidance and recommendations in the professional literature. Therefore, we have developed procedures for calculating the load-bearing capacity of iQwood elements under in-plane as well as out-of-plane loadings. The procedures are based on guidelines provided by the standard SIST EN 1995-1-1: 2005 [1] for the design of timber structures. We have also relied on the results of shear, bending, and buckling experimental tests conducted on iQwood elements at the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute. To better understand the behaviour and load transfer through iQwood elements, we have prepared a nonlinear numerical model using SAP2000 [2] software. Based on the experimental and numerical results, we have assessed adequacy of the presented procedures.
