The diploma thesis discusses tourism development in the Dreta Valley (Zadrečka dolina). Its findings are derived from the analyses of literature, relevant documents, statistical data and interviews with local inhabitants. Despite its many natural, cultural and historical sights, the valley is not widely recognised as a tourist destination. Today, the municipalities of Gornji Grad and Nazarje, located in the valley along the Dreta River, are striving for the development and greater recognisability of tourism in the area, which is why they are joining various tourism development projects at the local and regional level. Moreover, they are incorporating tourism into their municipal development strategies. In the future, the Dreta Valley should take advantage of its great tourism potential, taking into account certain limiting factors. We should be aware, however, that the valley will never achieve the mass tourism that is characteristic of the most recognisable and popular Slovenian tourist destinations.
