In the urban environment, horticultural design of roundabouts is increasingly important. The choice of planting varies from place to place, as we found out by comparing roundabouts in two places in Zasavje, Zagorje ob Savi and Trbovlje. Those responsible for urban landscaping are increasingly including perennials in plantings, especially in view of their low maintenance requirements. This was observed in Zagorje ob Savi roundabout, in which several perennial plants were planted during our observation period. Flowering annuals are still present in horticultural design, as they contribute to variation and are more appealing to a wider range of people. We noticed positive use of mulch (pebbles and fabric) in both roundabouts, as the weeds were not present. We found that the height of the plants differeds from literature data, as the growing conditions in the roundabouts are different from the optimal conditions for each species. Consequently, the average height of bloody geranium (Geranium sanguineum 'Rozane') was 29.3 cm as compared to sources which report average height above 40 cm. Similarly, wild sage (Salvia nemorosa) was shorter in conditions of roundabouts as it reached average height of 22,5 cm. Contrary to reported height between 30 and 50 cm.
