The diploma work presents changes in roles in the family with an emphasis on changing fatherhood and their role in caring for the child. It shows the changing role of father in everyday tasks after the child birth. The essence of the diploma work is the research of the phenomenon of new fatherhood, which shows a more active role of the father in family life. The theoretical part of diploma work consists of three parts. The first part covers the family and social changes that affected family life and the division of roles in the family. The second part presents the emergence of new fatherhood, the development of paternal identity and changes in fatherhood over time. The third part covers the regulation of family policy in Slovenia, especially the paternity leave policy, followed by a comparison with Scandinavian countries. The empirical part shows the research conducted with interviews among 6 fathers of different generations. This gives us an insight into how the role change in the family has changed over time. Through the analysis, we also get an insight into which family tasks fathers are usually involved in, and how their role in caring for the child is manifested.
