The Slovenian Lutheran church order (Cerkovna ordninga), published in 1564 by P. Trubar, provides, among other things, an outline of the services to be observed by the Slovenian reformed community (the calendar of feasts, Sunday and feast service with or without communion, vespers with or without Latin schola). The descriptions envisage also singing of the Slovenian hymns. The categories of hymns mentioned in the church order correspond with the types of hymns to be found in the Slovenian protestant hymnals, including that of J. Dalmatin from 1584. However, neither the church order nor the hymnals prescribe specific hymns for specific points in the course of the liturgy or specific occasions: the actual choice was obviously left to the congregation. This is in accordance with the typically Lutheran concept of the liturgy emphasising rather its contents than its form.
