Abstract
Po pregledu literature sem v teoretičnem delu najprej zapisala nekaj o zasvojenostih, saj so motnje hranjenja ena izmed številnih vrst zasvojenosti. Nato sem predstavila rezultate, sklepe in predloge raziskave. Zaradi izkušnje motenj hranjenja so razvile številne strategije, veščine in tehnike, s katerimi si pomagajo pri spopadanju z vsakdanjimi izzivi in si z njimi krepijo duševno zdravje. Usmerjanje v pozitivna področja posameznikom pomagajo preokviriti stisko, dajo občutek dosegljivosti cilja in s tem omogočijo hitrejše in bolj celostno okrevanje.

Title:Positive Effects of Eating Disorders on Life of an Individual During and After Recovery
Abstract:
In my thesis I explored positive effects of eating disorders on life of an individual during and after recovery. Firstly, in my theoretical section I described addictions, as eating disorders are one of the many forms of addiction. Secondly, I described some general characteristics of eating disorders and what are main causes of them. Since I am researching positive effects on life on an individual, I also discussed what causes or effects of eating disorders are outlined in literature. Lastly, in theoretical part I discussed the connection between social work and collaboration with individuals, that are struggling with eating disorders. In the empirical part of my qualitative research I interviewed ten individuals, that have already recovered from an eating disorder. I was collecting the data about what positive effects of eating disorders are individuals seeing on mental health, on social interactions and what positive impacts had eating disorders on relationships with close ones. Additionally, I researched what strategies, skills and techniques have individuals developed due to the experience for coping with everyday challenges. I also explored, what role did professionals and close ones play during and after recovery. Finally, I was wondering, if participants are seeing any difference in perception of experience of the eating disorder compared to perception before the interview. Then, I presented the results, conclusions and recommendations. The research has shown, that eating disorders can have positive effects on all aspects of individual's life. I came to conclusion, that there are numerous positive effects on mental health of research participants. Positive effects between and after recovery are evident in bettering and increased self-confidence, self-image, improved overall happiness and independence. Participants have redefined numerous values, including letting go control over food and becoming more compassionate towards their bodies. Also, they see positive changes in their relationships with close ones. In relationships they are also more opened. Between participants and close ones there is greater connection, trust and mutual support. The majority of participants even used their experience to help others with similar difficulties. Additionally, individuals that recovered from eating disorders have developed numerous strategies, skills and techniques for coping with everyday challenges to better their mental health. The participants outlined that most of them have never experienced such conversations (interviews) before this research. Before this interview they have never thought about what potential positive effects have eating disorder had on their life. I came to conclusion, that this indicates the necessity of incorporating such concepts in support of collaboration with individuals, that are struggling with an eating disorder. Additionally, my interview and my entire thesis is really related to concepts of social work and empowerment. I think it is really necessary, that social workers start getting involved in the field of eating disorders and also, to educate other professionals, to start including concepts of empowerment, because every experience can bring something new, something positive. In my opinion, focusing on positive aspects can help individuals, who struggle with eating disorders to redefine their difficulty and gives them sense, that their goal is reachable. This contributes to faster and more comprehensive recovery.
