This article shows how digitized literary (history) material can be used to read selected poems by the German– Slovenian poet Luiza Pesjak (1828–1898), which have acquired a unfavorable status in literary history, even though they have not been yet examined in detail to date. They are a type of occasional poetry inspired by various events and occasions, which is testified to by contemporary reports in one of the main Slovenian newspapers of the second half of the nineteenth century, Kmetijske in rokodelske novice (Farmers’ and Craftsmen’s News). This newspaper has been digitized as part of the Digital Library of Slovenia project and provides insight into the depth and breadth of the contexts in which these texts were created and used (i.e., their aura). This is also where a possible answer lies to the question of how to read (and inspire people to read) texts from earlier periods of Slovenian literature.
