Wikisource is a web portal of the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation that stores and collects digitized texts in the public domain. Seventy-three languages have their own subdomain on Wikisource, which is a quarter of all languages included in the sister project Wikipedia. Despite contributing only 0.3% of texts, the Slovenian Wikisource (Sln. Wikivir) subdomain (operating since 2006, which makes it three years younger than the English subdomain) is among the most active. There are currently 15,218 works by 1,011 authors available on Slovenian Wikisource. The volume of literature comprises nearly 58 million words, and 8,792 individuals have been involved in preparing and editing the texts, with an average of sixteen active on a monthly basis. Students of Slovenian studies become acquainted with Wikisource in their first year, when they are required to edit a short historical work of fiction. Anyone interested in making some money by editing can join the project via the Slovenian Slavic Studies Society. Since 2007, the project has been funded by the Slovenian Ministry of Culture. The goal of Slovenian Wikisource is to collect the complete body of Slovenian literature in the public domain – that is, all works whose authors died over seventy years ago.
