The master’s thesis presents and analyses Nocturnal after John Dowland op. 70 written by Benjamin Britten for the guitarist Julian Bream. It deals with their lives and the creation of the work itself. It presents the relationship between the composer and the guitarist, which was essential for the creation of the work. The analysis deals with the musical form, structure, interpretation and technical characteristics of individual variations. It also analyses the use of Dowlands motifs and their transformation in individual variations.
