Abstract
Orodja za virtualno resničnost (VR) odpirajo nove možnosti za vizualizacijo 3D modelov, ki bi lahko udeležencem v razvojnem procesu izboljšali tehnično predstavo ter jim omogočili lažje in hitrejše odkrivanje napak. V okviru naloge smo morali opraviti pregled trenutnega stanja glede uporabe orodij za VR v razvojno-konstrukcijskem procesu. Ugotovili smo, da se lahko VR trenutno uporablja pri zgolj 15% vseh razvojnih dejavnosti, vendar pa bi se lahko njena uporabnost v prihodnje z ustrezno prilagoditvijo razvojnih metod in tehnologije VR razširila na 74%. Nato smo morali raziskati, ali bi se lahko orodja za VR uporabljala tudi za predstavitev umestitve izdelka v prostor. V ta namen smo v programu Unreal Engine izdelali aplikacijo za VR. Z njeno pomočjo smo ugotovili, da je uspešnost predstavitve pogojena s stopnjo realističnosti virtualnega okolja in intuitivno uporabo aplikacije. Pri razvoju aplikacije smo prepoznali dve omejitvi orodij za VR. Prva je nezmožnost uvoza relacij med komponentami 3D modela v Unreal Engine. Druga pa je težavno grafično upodabljanje v realnem času zaradi prevelike kompleksnosti 3D modelov.

Title:Implementation of VR tools in the design development process
Abstract:
Virtual Reality (VR) tools offer new opportunities for visualising 3D models, which could enhance the technical understanding of those involved in the development process and enable them to identify design errors more easily and swiftly. As part of the thesis, we conducted a review of the current state of the art of the employment of VR tools in the design and development process. Our findings indicate that VR is currently used in only 15% of all development activities. However, with the appropriate adaptation of VR development methods and technology, its applicability could be extended to 74% in the future. We proceeded to examine whether VR tools could also be used to showcase product placement in a spatial context. For this purpose, we developed a VR application in Unreal Engine. We found that the success of the presentation was dependent on the degree of realism of the virtual environment and the intuitive use of the application. While developing the VR application, we identified two limitations of VR tools. The first is the inability to import relations between 3D model components into Unreal Engine. The second is the difficult real-time graphical rendering due to the excessive complexity of 3D models.
