The topic of this paper addresses the training of crew onboard ships, from the very start when someone decides to become a seaman to the part where you have to train constantly during your embarkment on the ship with the help of conducting onboard drills. The purpose of the paper is to provide with the different types of training seaman have to comply with, different types of drills that are conducted on the ships, and all the details that surround the conduction of the drills on ships. The text is focused on the importance of crew readiness on board.
The first part of the paper provides an overview of different conventions that seaman have to comply with. Furthermore, it also provides the full run of all the certificates a seaman can acquire when getting their licences for working on ships. The second part of the assignment is devoted to explaining why it comes to the knowledge differences between seafarers, and presents the institutions that are responsible for the supervision of the educational systems. The last part presents the drills, the muster stations, teams that crew divides into in case of an emergency, their duties, the drill procedures and the importance of the conduction of the drills.
