Companies in Slovenia are increasingly exposed to fierce competitive conditions and rapid market changes within the market-oriented economic system. This applies to forestry companies too, which are often less competitive and consequently perform worse than businesses in other sectors due to political-economic factors and the weak state of the forest-wood supply chain in Slovenia. Beneficij Ltd. was established to manage the forests owned by the Novo Mesto Archdiocese. The objective of the company's performance analysis was to evaluate its performance from 2017 to 2021, providing guidelines to enhance competitiveness within the forestry sector. The focus was on fundamental business performance indicators like productivity, cost-effectiveness, and profitability. Data from the company's balance sheets and income statements were used for the analysis. The analysis revealed that the company was most successful in the first half of the analyzed period, with the highest performance indicators and net income in 2018. In the latter half of the period, particularly in 2021, the company's performance declined due to reduced sales, wood procurement, and property rentals, caused by the adverse impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the overall economy. To enhance future performance and net income, the company's leadership will need to concentrate on reducing business risks by establishing long-term partnerships and diversifying the sale of forest-wood assortments, adapting to unpredictable changes in the wood market.
