Abstract
Grafično oblikovanje v glasbeni industriji predstavlja prav posebno nišo v tej dejavnosti. Tovrstno oblikovanje se dotika več področij, mi pa smo se osredotočili na oblikovanje reklamnih produktov (angl. merchandise). Namen magistrskega dela je bil, predstaviti proces in potek dela grafičnega oblikovalca v glasbeni industriji. Z oblikovanjem treh obširnih kolekcij za tri različne tuje naročnike smo predstavili, kako poteka delo od idejne zasnove in načrtovanja do realizacije grafičnih podob. Oblikovane vse tri kolekcije, ki smo jih naročnikom predstavili na maketah, veljajo za reprezentativni povzetek dela in za opredeljen glavni končni cilj tega dela. V teoretičnem delu sta predstavljena pomen in sporočilnost potiskanih majic ter ostalih oblačil. Raziskali smo, kakšen vpliv in pomen ima merchandise za ljudi in glasbene skupine oziroma glasbenike. Preučili smo, kdaj postane glasbena skupina blagovna znamka (angl. brand), ter kakšno vlogo imajo pri tem grafični oblikovalci. Podali smo smernice in nasvete, kako izboljšati oblikovanje v omenjeni oblikovalski niši. V eksperimentalnem delu smo sledili vodilom teoretične zasnove ter se osredotočili na razvoj in proces grafičnih podob za tri različne naročnike. Na podlagi procesa oblikovanja kolekcij smo predstavili delo od začetnih idej do končne predstavitve grafičnih podob. Pojasnili smo, kako oblikovalec sam pridobi informacije o naročniku, kakšna sta vrednost in pomen izdelave inspirativnega kolaža, kako določiti število grafičnih podob ter predlog maket oblačil, kje pridobiti ideje za oblikovanje, ter kaj je potrebno upoštevati pri nastanku končnih kolekcij oblačil. Kot končni rezultat magistrskega dela so nastale tri različne kolekcije oblačil, ki vključujejo devetnajst grafičnih podob. Vse grafične podobe smo predstavili na predlogah maket oblačil (angl. clothing mockup). Delo poda vpogled v proces dela grafičnega oblikovalca v glasbeni industriji. K stroki prispeva predvsem s specifičnim znanjem in vodili, ki ga zahteva tak poklic. V pomoč je lahko vsem oblikovalcem, ki se s tovrstnim delom še niso soočili.

Title:Graphic designer's work process in the music industry from the idea, to planning and realization
Abstract:
Graphic design holds a special niche in the music industry. While there are several areas of this type of design, we have focused on merchandise design. This master’s thesis aims to present the comprehensive process and workflow of graphic designers within the music industry. By undertaking the task of designing three extensive collections for foreign clients, this thesis exemplifies the workflow from conception and planning to the realisation of the designs. The three collections, showcased to the clients through mockups, serve as representative summaries and the primary objective of this thesis. In the theoretical part, this thesis delves into the significance and underlying message conveyed by graphic t-shirts and other garments. We explore the profound impact and meaning of merchandise for music artists and bands, considering how a music band transitions into a brand and the pivotal role graphic designers play in this transformative process. Moreover, we provide comprehensive guidelines and valuable advice on how to improve design within this niche. The empirical part of this thesis adheres to the guidelines established in the theoretical part, focusing on the development and process of designs for three different clients. Drawing upon the design process of the collections, we present a detailed account of the work, from initial ideas to the final presentation of the designs. Furthermore, we explain the strategies employed by designers in gathering information about the clients, emphasise the value and significance of creating moodboards, provide insight on seeking design inspiration, and outline crucial considerations when crafting the final collections. The culmination of this thesis manifests in three distinct collections, consisting of a total of nineteen designs, each presented on mockups. This master's thesis offers insight into the work process of graphic designers working within the music industry. It significantly contributes to the field by providing specific knowledge and guidance unique to this profession. Aspiring designers who have yet to engage in this specialised form of work will find this research invaluable in shaping their approach to such projects.
