The master thesis deals with the theoretical part, describing which maritime accidents have the greatest impact on the environment and their origin. It describes the short- and long-term environmental impacts caused by such accidents. The consequences of these pollution incidents are described in more detail, as well as their impact on nature and its ecosystems.
Oil spill disaster response is specifically described in the chapter "Disaster recovery". This chapter is divided into onshore and offshore clean-ups and describes the different approaches and methods of clean-up. It also includes a description, use and hazards of dispersants used in oil spill clean-up.
Accident analyses cover some of the major accidents such as the Exoon Valdez, the Deepwater Horizon and similar accidents and their impact on the environment. Through the analysis, we try to describe as best as possible the long-term and short-term consequences on animals, plants and habitats in the affected areas. We describe the major problems caused by these spills and give the solutions and measures that have resulted from these accidents.
