This master’s thesis has a focus on the life and work of Dušan Stular (1901 – 1992), whom I present
as a musician, part of the Slovenian minority in Trieste in the period between the two world wars and
partly during World War II as well as in Vojvodina, Serbia, in the second half of World War II and
in the post-war period. The methods used originate primarily in music history and in the ethnomusi-
cological studies on music and minorities, ethnomusicology of the individual, and ethnomusicology
of western art music. Brought together, they enable a multi-layered presentation of a musically active
individual in dynamic social contexts and musical processes.
