The subject of the assignment is a comparison of subordinate noun phrases in Russian and Polish from the point of view of syntax. There are three relationships between the noun head and the dependent in the phrase, i.e. agreement of a noun and an adjective in gender, declension and number (словенский язык – język słoweński – slovenski jezik ‘Slovenian language’), government between a noun and another noun (ассистент режиссёра – asystent reżysera – pomočnik režiserja ‘assistant director’) or a prepositional phrase in a certain declension (мебель для гостиной – meble do salonu – pohištvo za jedilnico ‘dining room furniture’) and relation, where head does not manifest a certain form (читание ночью – cztenie nocami – branje ponoči ‘reading at night’). We were interested in which way of expressing syntactic dependent of a noun prevails in Russian and which in Polish, we looked for similarities and differences between the two languages, exceptions or deviates from certain patterns within semantic categories and variant forms of phrases. The practical part consists of examples of subordinate noun phrases, which are arranged in tables according to the way the syntactic clause is expressed. The source language is Russian, which is characterized mainly by constructions with the preposition по ‘for/of/on/in’ and dative and the competition between the genitive and adjective constructions, while the Polish language is the one that, mainly with its variety of prepositional constructions, ensured the diversity and abundance of the tables.
