When Dancing Springs Up: Explorations of Amateur Dancing Among Young Educated Women in Urban Areas of Contemporary Morocco

The master's thesis explores non-professional and leisure-related dance contexts in urban areas of present-day Morocco among young university-educated women. Furthermore, it analyses diverse aspects of social life which are associated with dancing. Research aims to comprehend the ways and circumstances in which dancing happens. Dancing is examined from standpoints of dance sociality, dance atmospheres, temporalities, embodied habit, gender, and sexuality. The thesis presents and analyses the concept of “spring up” of dancing in which research findings are condensed.

Abstract

Magistrska naloga proučuje neprofesionalne in prostočasne plesne kontekste v urbanem Maroku med mladimi ženskami z univerzitetno izobrazbo. Ob tem analizira različne vidike družbenega življenja, ki so povezani s plesom. Namen raziskave je razumeti, na kakšne načine in v katerih okoliščinah se plesanje zgodi. Vznik plesa je pojasnjen z vidika plesne socialnosti, oblikovanja plesnih atmosfer, utelešene navade ter spola in spolnosti. Naloga uvaja in analizira koncept »vznika plesa«, v katerem se združujejo in povezujejo ugotovitve raziskave.
