Hospital information systems are a type of information systems without which we can hardly imagine the work of modern hospitals. The hospital information system BIRPIS21 is one of the most used in Slovenia and is also the information system used in the selected general hospital. The aim of the thesis was to analyze and determine the influence of hospital’s information system BIRPIS21 on medical examinations at the General Hospital Brežice.
In the research methodology, we conducted five open-ended interviews with health administrators, all of which were successful. These interviews enabled us to answer affirmatively to two research questions: 1. the use of BIRPIS21 improved communication between health professionals and health administrators during patient treatment and 2. the information system enables employees to work more efficiently. In addition to addressing the research questions, we identified the characteristics of the BIRPIS21 information system that health administrators perceive as strengths and weaknesses.
As part of the research, we found that the BIRPIS21 information system offers numerous valuable features that streamline the daily tasks of healthcare administrators. The standout feature of the BIRPIS21 information system is undoubtedly its ability to facilitate electronic patient report signatures, a functionality highly utilized by doctors.
Based on these findings, we were able to formulate recommendations aimed at enhancing the BIRPIS21 information system.
